This week was another for posting at Blog of Funny Names and once again I learned plenty. If you like margaritas, especially of the frozen variety, you’ll want to know who to thank. Click here for the story, then please come back for a frozen ‘rita (aka frita, per my Texan friend Kerbey) recipe well suited for the holidays.
Writing the BoFN post put margaritas in my head, specifically the frozen ‘rita/frita. Despite the fact that I usually drink the traditional margarita–and that it’s plenty cold where I am–I suddenly wanted nothing more than an icy cold frozen margarita. But it’s not July and I’m nowhere near south-of-the-border. How can I justify this classic cocktail? (True, no justification needed to enjoy a margarita no matter the time of year. But I’m trying to get a blog post out of this, so bear with me please.)
Holiday colors came to mind and cranberries and lime fit the bill. My first attempt came up short in the fruit flavor, so I bumped the cranberry juice up next go-round. I also added more Grand Marnier (my stand-in for Triple Sec, which I seem to not own), but pulled it back the next time. I also added agave on the last round as I wanted more sweet. All this to say that exact amounts are a subjective thing and feel free to tweak as desired.
With the holidays in full swing, I invite you to take a deep breath, sip something, and think good thoughts. Here’s to Mariano Martinez (What? You didn’t read my Funny Names post yet? What are you waiting for?) and here’s to old-school entrepreneurship and here’s to the holidays. You’ve given me a gift by reading here at food for fun. Thank you.
